Welcome to Ambushed Curl Academy! I'm Your Educator, Amy Bush.
I've been a hair stylist for over 30 years and have been focusing solely on curls for almost half my career. I've studied across the globe and along the way developed my own approach to natural curls. In 2010, I opened Ambushed Salon, an exclusively curly hair salon, and have personally trained every stylist I've ever had on my team, taking them through my extensive Curl Immersion Internship to pass down my philosophies of what I call the 4 Pillars of ArchiTEXTURE: a system for working with natural curls.
Now I'm taking that education global with my online course, so you can learn it, too. I believe that having a systematic approach and an understanding of a variety of techniques allows us to adapt to each client's unique needs.

Redefining Common Curl Myths
Learn the specifics of these myths and more during the course!
MYTH: You should never use shampoo on curly hair.
TRUTH: It's important to cleanse curly hair on a regular weekly schedule. There are many great options to maintain properly hydrated curls.
MYTH: Never brush curly hair.
TRUTH: There is a time and a place for brushing curls. It can actually be a great tool for detangling and helping to distribute product evenly.
MYTH: All curly hair needs high amounts of moisture.
TRUTH: Porosity is a top determining factor for what the hair needs. Hair will either need moisture, hydration, protein or a combination of these.
Why should you learn from me? Because I've been there.
By going through the thought process and struggle of figuring out how to work with curls on my own, it provided me with a much deeper understanding of what every little technique did and how to use it to my advantage. Breaking it down to such a basic level allowed me to understand the “rules” and how to manipulate them. Eventually I was able to bring this all together into my 4 Pillars of ArchiTEXTURE system which I can’t wait to share with you. It’s high time all stylists were equipped with the education and confidence to handle any texture in their chair and I’m on a mission to reach as many stylists around the world as possible through online education.
